Maroons fall 7-6 in double OT to Flyers

The Chatham Maroons fumbled a five-goal lead in the third period to fall 7-6 in double overtime to the Leamington Flyers on Thursday.

Maddux Rychel, Evan Wells, and Braedon Caetano scored back-to-back goals for Chatham in the first 15 minutes of the game, and Rychel added one more 16:28 into the opening period. Leamington made it on the board by scoring once just before the end of the frame.

Rychel completed a hat-trick by scoring 18:38 for the Maroons into the second period, and Zach Power added one more with less than a minute left in the frame to give Chatham a 6-1 lead.

Everything went wrong for the Maroons in the third period, with the Flyers making a massive comeback by scoring five straight goals to tie the game and force overtime.

After a no scoring in the first OT frame, Leamington scored the game-winner 1:39 into double overtime.

Maroons goalie Kevin Linker made 37 saves out of 44 shots on net.

The Maroons return home on Sunday to take on the Flyers again at 7 p.m.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
