Fire crews douse attic blaze on O'Neil Street

A pair of house fires in Chatham-Kent made for an especially busy day for local firefighters Wednesday.

First, crews were called to a blaze on Erie Street South in Merlin. The damages were estimated at $300,000 and the cause was listed as "undetermined."

A few hours later, crews were called to a second blaze at 64 O'Neil St. in Chatham.

Investigators said an electrical issue in the attic sparked that fire, adding that there were no injuries reported.

The damages in the O'Neil Street fire were estimated at $130,000.
