Belligerent man urinates at CK police HQ

A Chatham man didn't learn his lesson the first time and had to be arrested twice in the same morning.

An alert citizen called police on Sunday just before 6 a.m to report a possible break and enter at the Jami Masjid Mosque on Lacroix Street in Chatham. When officers arrived, they saw a man damaging a door at the property and noticed a small window was broken.

Police said the man was belligerent with officers and refused to provide his name. He was arrested and continued to be uncooperative at police headquarters.

"The man threatened to urinate all over the floor, which he purposely did," said Chatham-Kent Police Public Information Officer Renee Cowell.

Police searched the suspect and were able to identify him by his passport, which was found on him.

He was released around 9:30 a.m. but 30 minutes later he returned to the mosque and was arrested again and charged. The 30-year-old Chatham man has been charged with two counts of mischief under $5,000 and failing to comply with his release conditions.

Total damage is estimated at $500.

Police have not released his name.
