Salmonella concerns prompt fresh bean sprout recall

A popular brand of fresh bean sprouts has been recalled due to possible Salmonella contamination.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency announced that the recall applies to 454-gram bags of Fresh Sprouts bean sprouts with a best before date of Feb. 28, 2020, and UPC of 8 27468 00100 0.

The packages of bean sprouts affected were distributed to retailers in Ontario. The CFIA is advising people to not consume the recalled product and that it should be thrown out, or returned to the store where it was purchased.

According to the CFIA, the recall was triggered by test results, which may lead to the recall of other products.

No illnesses associated with the recalled product have been reported.

Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick. Symptoms can include fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. Those with weakened immune systems may contract serious and sometimes deadly infections.
