Walkers raise money for Coldest Night of the Year

Over 100 walkers braved the cold to support NeighbourLink Chatham-Kent.

The Coldest Night of the Year walk is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the group and took place on Saturday, February 22.

"I think we had about something like 109 registered walkers, somewhere in that neighbourhood," said Network Coordinator Al Baker. "But there was a few more who just came out for the walk, just to have a good time. We always have that every year. Very well attended."

Baker said he believes they will be close to their fundraising goal.

"Our goal was $30,000 and at the final tally online, we are just over $27,000. Now I did a cash deposit this morning into the bank, and I think that once it's all tallied up, we are going to be within $100 of our goal."

The money raised is used to cover NeighbourLink's operating expenses.

"We have rent pay and that sort of thing, and vouchers to provide, gas cards, that sort of thing," said Baker. "It will go towards our general operating expenses for the year."

NeighbourLink Chatham-Kent provides services to residents throughout the community, ranging from free transportation to medical appointments to offering friendly visits.
