UPDATE: Flood watch cancelled for Lake St. Clair and Lake Erie

The flood watch for Lake St. Clair Clair and Lake Erie has been downgraded.

The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority issued the flood watch on Wednesday but cancelled it on Thursday saying the wind on Lake St. Clair has stayed between 25 and 35 km/hr since late Wednesday afternoon. The LTVCA also said there is a thin layer of ice on the eastern side of the lake and it has prevented wave spray flooding in Lighthouse Cove and other storm-related shoreline damage on the lake.

Jason Wintermute of the LTVCA added there is still a risk of flooding on Erie Shore Drive if the wind shifts. He said if that happened there would also be a risk of wave spray freezing, leading to dangerous walking and driving conditions.

He said people should take extra caution and avoid the shoreline.
