UPDATE: Highway 401 reopened in Tilbury after serious crash

Police have reopened the westbound lanes of Highway 401 near the Tilbury OnRoute Centre following a collision that sent one driver to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Provincial police said the collision involving two transport trucks happened around 11:30 a.m. on Thursday. One of the drivers was airlifted from the scene to a hospital in London where he remains in critical condition.

The other driver was taken to a local hospital but has since been discharged.

OPP originally closed the westbound lanes between Queens Line and Country Road 42. However, during the investigation, police adjusted the location of the closure, which ended at around 9:30 p.m.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
