Vehicle crashes into John McGregor Secondary School

Repairs are underway at John McGregor Secondary School in Chatham after a vehicle crashed into the building.

According to police, a 16-year-old driver collided with the school building at the rear of the property near Indian Creek Road and Faubert Drive around 7 p.m. on Wednesday and caused about $20,000 in damage. The teen was not hurt. Police said the teen will not be charged because the crash happened on private property.

The school was open on Thursday but access to the damaged area was restricted for safety reasons. The principal sent a message to parents and guardians on Wednesday night to notify them of the crash.

"Student and staff safety are a top priority for the Lambton Kent District School Board (LKDSB)," the message read. "The school is working closely with LKDSB's Facilities and Health and Safety Departments to assess the damage and ensure appropriate safety measures are in place for student and staff safety."

Principal Don Zondag said parents and guardians are encouraged to contact the school if they have any questions or concerns.
