Driver charged after single-vehicle collision

A man from Southwold Township is facing impaired driving charges after crashing the car he was driving and allegedly fleeing the scene.

It happened Sunday morning around 4:40 a.m. when members of the Chatham-Kent OPP were called to a single-vehicle collision on Highway 401 near Orford Road.

When officers arrived they found a vehicle in the north ditch on its roof. The driver had fled the scene on foot.

With the assistance of the West Region OPP Canine Unit and the West Region Emergency Response Team, the driver was found a short distance from the vehicle and allegedly showed signs of impairment.

The driver, a 29-year-old from Southwold Township, was arrested and is charged with operation while impaired alcohol and drugs, operation while impaired blood alcohol concentration, dangerous operation, failure to stop after an accident and obstruct a peace officer.

He was given a May 2020 court date and released from custody.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
