Nine new COVID-19 cases in Windsor-Essex, one new death

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit is reporting nine new cases of COVID-19 and one new death as of Saturday afternoon.

The total number of cases in the Windsor-area is now at 694 with 1,797 test results currently pending. So far, 59 people have died as a result of the virus in Windsor-Essex.

The latest death involves a woman in her 90s who had tested positive for the virus and was a resident at a long-term care home.

From Saturday to Sunday, 11 more cases were listed as being resolved. This brings the total number of people in the region that have recovered from the virus to 263.

Across Ontario, 19,944 confirmed cases were reported on Saturday, a 1.8 per cent increase from Friday’s figures. So far in the province, 1,599 have died from COVID-19 and 14,383 have recovered from the virus.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
