The Medical Officer of Health for Windsor-Essex has ordered an autopsy on the 30-year-old temporary foreign worker who passed away from COVID-19 over the weekend.
The man had no other underlying conditions and had reported to public health nurses that his symptoms were all but cleared.
"The person was doing fine, was resolved of all their symptoms and died suddenly," said Dr. Wajid Ahmed. "People in their 30s don't just die suddenly. We know that there is some evidence in terms of the clotting disorder that could happen after COVID-19 and if this could be one of the contributing causes."
Dr. Ahmed said they want to know more about what led to the man's death. Because of the death, the health unit is also doing more in-person visits with the temporary foreign workers who have tested positive and are self-isolating.
On Tuesday morning, the Windsor Essex County Health Unit reported seven new cases of COVID-19 in the community and one additional death. A woman in her 70s, a resident of a long-term care facility, passed away from the disease.
The health unit is no longer reporting the total number of tests done in the community or the number of test results that are pending. Dr. Ahmed said that too many different agencies are conducting tests to provide an accurate number to the community. The health unit will still be notified of every positive case in the community so they can conduct case and contact management.
A mobile testing unit is at the Essex Centre Sports Complex Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Over the weekend, a mobile unit tested 1,808 people in Windsor at the SilverCity parking lot.
