Another COVID death linked to Vision, Meadowview outbreak over

Lambton Public Health is reporting a ninth COVID-19 death linked to an outbreak at a Sarnia long-term care home.

The health unit updated its website Tuesday night to report another resident from Vision Nursing Home has died from the virus, bringing the death toll in Sarnia-Lambton to 24.

Bluewater Health Communications Chief Julia Oosterman said a 96-year-old woman, admitted to the hospital from Vision May 29, died Tuesday.

Health officials said an outbreak that was declared at Lambton Meadowview Villa on May 25, after one staff member tested positive, has ended. There's been no new cases linked to the Petrolia facility.

There are three new confirmed cases of the virus up to 266, while three more people have recovered for a total of 210.

Lambton Public Health has now received the results from 7,091 tests, 96 per cent of which have been negative for COVID-19.

Wednesday, Bluewater Health reported 12 patients in hospital were confirmed to have the virus while 14 were suspected of having it with tests pending.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
