Petrolia flips Pizzafest to virtual format during pandemic

The seventh annual Petrolia Pizzafest is still a go this weekend, (June 5-6) but it's being held virtually because of the ongoing pandemic.

Director of Facilities and Community Services Dave Menzies said they felt it was important to provide something fun for residents and to keep some sense of normalcy for the town.

He says there are six locations participating in this year's virtual pizza party-Bud's Pizza, Godfather's Pizza, Helen's Hideaway Family Restaurant, Johnny G's Premium Pizza Plus, Petrolia Pizza and Subs and Wise Guys Inc.

"It's really just a weekend to celebrate pizza and support our pizza locations who would normally come to Victoria Park," said Menzies "We would try to hit 6,000 to 7,000 slices of pizza, obviously we can't do that this year. So, we're asking people to treat it as a pizza day or pizza weekend in Petrolia and support the local pizza places.

Menzies said the event will also feature performances from local artists on Facebook.

"We would normally attract a couple thousand people throughout the day at Victoria Park," he said. "Bouncy castles, face painting and live music. We're trying to still have that type of atmosphere, but obviously at everybody's home instead of in the park."

Further details are posted on the Virtual Petrolia Pizzafest 2020 Facebook page.
