Port Elgin to reopen main beach next week

Port Elgin will reopen the main beach for a number of uses on Friday, June 12th.

In a release on June 5th, the Township of Saugeen Shores says the main beach in Port Elgin will reopen for walking, exercising, swimming and sitting next Friday. The Fisheries and Oceans Canada breakwater project is still being completed on the north side, so residents are asked to use caution in that area of the beach. No public washrooms will be open and there will be limited garbage bins. Everyone is expected to carry out their own garbage when leaving the beach.

Physical distancing is required and encouraged when using the beach area, and gatherings of more than 5 are not allowed due to COVID-19.

“If everyone does their part to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, we will hopefully be able to keep our outdoor amenities like beaches and parks open this summer,” says Mayor Luke Charbonneau.
