46 new COVID-19 cases in Windsor-Essex

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit is reporting a spike in the amount of COVID-19 cases in the region.

On Saturday, the health unit reported 46 new cases of the virus, bringing the total case count up to 1,179.

There were no new deaths reported on Saturday, with the local total still sitting at 67 since the pandemic began. So far 701 individuals have recovered from the virus in Windsor-Essex.

Currently, there are outbreaks at three agricultural workplaces in Kingsville and six in Leamington. A total of 41 of Saturday's new cases were related to the agri-food sector. There is also one active outbreak at an area long-term care home.

Provincially, 266 new cases were reported on Saturday morning, bringing the total case count in Ontario to 31,992

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
