Health unit reports 12 new COVID-19 cases in Windsor-Essex

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit reported 12 new cases of the novel coronavirus on Sunday.

The majority of the new cases were reported within agricultural workplaces.

Over the weekend, the region saw 58 new cases of the virus. On Saturday, the health unit reported 46 new cases, the second largest spike in numbers since April.

The total number of local cases has now reached 1,191 and 706 of those cases have been resolved. The death toll remains at 67 and currently, there is one active outbreak at an area long-term care home.

Meanwhile, Ontario reported 197 new cases on Sunday bringing the provincial total up to 32,189. So far 26,961 people have recovered representing 83.8 per cent of the total number of cases.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
