UPDATE: Garage fire in Wallaceburg is out, damage estimated at $1M

First responders were kept busy on Monday with a fire that caused approximately $1 million worth of damages and a marine rescue.

Firefighters from Station #3 in Wallaceburg and Station #2 in Chatham were called to D & S Auto on Lowe Avenue in Wallaceburg just after 10 a.m. Fire officials sent out a message on Twitter just before 11:30 a.m. that said the fire was out.

One employee was treated at the scene by Chatham-Kent EMS.

Meanwhile, two people were rescued in Rondeau Bay just before noon, after the canoe they were in flipped. Chatham-Kent OPP said the canoe capsized approximately 800 metres from shore between Shrewsbury and Rondeau Park.

Both canoeists were wearing personal flotation devices and did not suffer injuries.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
