As the use of non-medical masks at commercial establishments in Windsor-Essex is expected to become mandatory, a local company is hoping to ease some concerns.
Second Chance CPR, a first aid and CPR training centre, recently "changed gears" to provide personal protective equipment (PPE) within the region through a website called PPE Online. The local business has also expanded its reach to supply items on a national level.
“Since COVID happened, we saw an extremely high demand for PPE products locally in Windsor and Essex County so we partnered up with other local businesses to create PPEonline.ca," said Mike Mio, owner of Second Chance CPR. “The initial idea was to help our customers locally, then it grew to Essex County, and ultimately now were getting calls from across Canada to supply the PPE people need quickly, and effectively.”
A release from the company states that PPE is shipping across Canada on a daily basis.
However, with the recent announcement by the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit that mask would become mandatory, residents will be allowed to pick-up pre-ordered items online directly from the company's location at 871 Janette Ave. The pick-option is limited to this week only, however, there is also a local delivery option as well.
“People have started to scramble to find disposable and reusable masks and we have lots of stock. The phone hasn’t stopped ringing and people just want to come and pick them up, so we have altered our website to allow that for this week,” said partner John Picco.
PPE Online carries various items such as reusable face masks, hand sanitizer, and thermometers. A portion of all sales will be donated to Transition To Betterness and their initiative to support front line health care workers.
