United Way distributes federal grants to another five agencies

Five more local organizations are receiving funds to help them adapt their frontline services because of COVID-19.

The Sarnia-Lambton United Way has approved a $38,300 grant for the Family Counselling Centre. Funds will be used to begin a volunteer recruitment campaign for the Distress Line and Tel-Check service, as well as to purchase new equipment.

The agency is giving the Parkinson Society Southwestern Ontario $15,000 to provide direct client support, including virtual and community outreach and virtual therapy.

Habitat for Humanity and the local chapter of the Kidney Foundation of Canada have received $5,000 each, and $3,000 has been awarded to Community Concerns for the Medically Fragile (CCMF) to provide massage therapy to residents at Standing Oaks group home.

The funds are being distributed through the Emergency Community Support Fund (ECSF).

The Sarnia-Lambton United Way received $334,000 from the federal government to help charities who support seniors, veterans, single mothers, persons with disabilities, newcomers and other marginalized communities through the ECSF.

Registered charities can apply for funds through the United Way's website.
