Sarnia Canada Day parade cancelled but food drive still on

This year's Canada Day parade has been cancelled but the Rotary Club of Sarnia-Lambton After-Hours is still collecting canned food donations for the Inn of the Good Shepherd.

The club typically collects food during the parade but is asking residents to leave donations on their porches this year.

President-elect and Food Drive Chair Don Anderson said around 50 volunteers will be canvassing the city from 9 a.m. until noon Wednesday, July 1.

"Historically we normally collect around 3,000 to 4,000 pounds of food each year along the parade route. Our goal is to be successful this year and double that. Anything beyond that would be even better."

Anderson said they will be maintaining physical distancing by having groups from the same household and won't be knocking on doors.

The following areas are to be canvassed:

- Bright's Grove - Point Edward - North of the 402 - South of the 402 - Heritage Park, College Park, Sherwood Village ONLY.
