Garbage can collision leads to impaired driving charge

A 73-year-old Chatham man is charged with impaired driving after he allegedly drove a vehicle into a garbage can Thursday night.

Police said they received a call about that from a concerned citizen at around 8 p.m. Thursday.

Officers pulled over the vehicle and believed the man behind the wheel was under the influence of alcohol, so they took him back to police headquarters for further breath tests.

The man was later charged with impaired driving and failing or refusing to comply with a demand. He was later released with a future court date.

Face puncher arrested

Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man accused of punching someone in the face in Wallaceburg.

Police said they were called to the residence at around 1 a.m., adding that the accused allegedly punched the victim in the face after he was asked to leave and then ended up leaving.

Officers located the man a short time later and arrested him. He was charged and then released with a future court date.

Break and enter on Fargo Road

Police are appealing to the public for tips as they try to solve a break-in at a building on Fargo Road in Harwich Township.

Investigators said sometime overnight, someone broke a window on one of the outside buildings at an address on that road. They also kicked in the front plexiglass windows on a storage barn there.

It's not clear yet if anything was taken.

Man arrested after throwing beer can and iced coffee at ex

A 23-year-old man is charged with assault and uttering threats after an argument with his ex-girlfriend escalated to the point where he allegedly threw a beer can and an iced capp at her.

Police said the man and his ex were arguing at around 11 a.m. Thursday when the exchange took a violent turn.

Investigators said when the victim tried to leave the residence, the man also allegedly threatened her.

The accused was later charged with two counts of assault -- one for throwing the beer can and one for throwing the iced capp -- and one count of uttering threats.

He was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
