OPP identify man who drowned near Wheatley

Ontario Provincial Police have identified the man who drowned near Wheatley Provincial Park earlier this summer.

The police service said 28-year-old Santos Cuc Diaz of the Republic of Guatemala was seen going into the lake during the afternoon of July 12, 2020 and, according to the initial report from OPP, he remained underwater for approximately 10 minutes before he was brought to the shore.

CPR was conducted and he was taken to an area hospital, but was later pronounced dead.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
