Arrest made in historical sexual assault

A 54-year-old Chatham man has been arrested in connection with an alleged sexual assault that took place over 30 years ago and involved a child.

Chatham-Kent police said an investigation started in May after officers received information on the alleged incident, which involved a nine-year-old boy in 1989.

Police said the 54-year-old man went to police headquarters on Friday morning and turned himself in.

He was arrested for sexual assault and sexual interference. Police said the Chatham man was released from custody pending a future court date.

The name of the accused has not been released.
