Fanshawe to continue offering online and mixed classes into 2021

Fanshawe College will continue to offer classes in both online and blended format for the winter 2021 semester.

The semester will run from January 11 to April 23, 2021. There will not be a separate exam week, as all exams and coursework will be completed by April 23, 2021.

Vice President of Student Services, Michele Beaudoin, says they currently have about ten thousand students fully online right now.

"We have about ten thousand students, probably, fully online right now and about 85-hundred students who are in what we would call blended courses, so a mix of on campus and online. And so that will likely be close to what we've been doing in terms of the number of students in those courses."

Beaudoin says the students, generally, seem to be adjusting. She says there are some students who find it very convenient.

"There's a mix, as you would expect, of some students who find it extremely convenient and they're quite happy with it and it really works for them and then other students who struggle a bit more in the online environment and prefer face to face."

Beaudoin adds, it can also be a little disappointing for first-year students who were looking forward to the campus or college experience and are now missing out on that.

Beaudoin says one of the benefits of remote learning is that it gives students in satellite campuses the same access to many of the services the college offers that in the past would be easier for on-campus students to access.
