UPDATE: Police investigate fatal fire in Chatham

Chatham-Kent police have taken over an investigation following a fatal apartment fire in Chatham.

Around 4 p.m. Saturday, emergency crews responded to a fire at an apartment building on 50 Merritt Ave. where the body of a deceased person was found.

Chatham-Kent police are continuing to work with the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office and coroner’s office to determine the identity of the deceased as well as what caused the fire.
