OHL pushes back start of season to February

The Ontario Hockey League is now hoping to start the 2020-21 regular season on Thursday, February 4, featuring a reduced 40 game schedule for each team.

The league said training camps are scheduled to get underway on Saturday, January 23.

A total of eight clubs will compete in the post season, starting May 11. A league champion will be crowned no later than June 14 and the Memorial Cup is scheduled to begin on June 17 in either Oshawa or Sault St. Marie.

Teams will play primarily against opponents in their geographic region in an effort to reduce travel in consideration of the health and safety of all players and staff.

The league expects to release details of team alignment once the regular season schedule is released.

It's still unclear whether fans will be allowed to attend the games, and what the protocols will be for American-based teams.
