Gale warning and flood risk on Lake Erie and Lake St. Clair

The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority is warning residents living along the shores of Lake Erie and Lake St. Clair to watch for some strong winds and maybe flooding.

It has issued a Gale Warning for western Lake Erie and a Strong Wind Warning for Lake St. Clair.

Through to Monday night, there could be sustained winds between 30- and 55 km/h. On Lake Erie, some gusts could get up to 75 km/h Sunday morning.

Waves on Lake Erie could reach 1- to 2 metres in height Saturday night and up to 3 metres Sunday morning.

Late Sunday, waves on Lake St. Clair could get as high as 1.5 metres.

Lake levels remain high, and wave action could damage shoreline barriers and retaining walls.

Saturday night, there could be flooding along Erie Shore Drive, but the risk will shift to Lighthouse Cove Sunday morning.
