Crews respond to transformer explosion

An incident at a Chatham transformer building is being investigated by the Office of the Fire Marshal.

At around 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, fire crews from two Chatham stations responded to an explosion that was reported inside the transformer building at 480 St. Clair St.

According to Chatham-Kent fire officials, once the power was confirmed to be isolated, firefighters checked and cleared the building of smoke.

No injuries are being reported.

The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
