Another death, 63 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor-Essex

An additional COVID-19 related death is being reported in the Windsor-Essex region.

The death, along with 63 new cases of the virus, was reported on Saturday morning by the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit.

The latest person to pass away was a man in his 60s.

The total number of people who have died due to the virus in the region now sits at 79. Meanwhile, the total number of cases is now at 3,570. Of those cases, 367 are listed as being active.

According to the health unit, 26 of the latest cases are from close contact of a confirmed case, 24 cases are still being investigated, seven are community-acquired, three are local health care workers, two are agri-farm workers and one case is travel related to the United States.

There remains four long-term care or retirement home outbreaks, seven workplace outbreaks, two school outbreaks and two community outbreaks in Windsor-Essex.

Elsewhere, provincial health officials recorded a total of  1,822 new cases of the virus on Saturday, bringing the total number of cases in Ontario to 113,038.
