Bruce County monitoring Pandemic's impact on businesses

An assessment by Bruce County staff has found the COVID-19 Pandemic continues to significantly impact businesses in the region.

71% of businesses surveyed experienced a decrease in business in the second quarter of 2020 compared to 2019. 15% of businesses saw an increase in business.

The October questionnaire found that 91% of businesses surveyed are open, 62% of businesses have been open since March, while 6% of businesses that closed by April have not reopened.

In general, restaurants and bars, retail businesses, and stores selling groceries, markets, specialty foods, and alcoholic beverages were more likely to have remained open. Tourism businesses were the first to feel the impact and will likely take the longest to recover.
