Cats perish in Tilbury apartment fire

Two cats have died and a couple of people had to be rescued from their balconies after an apartment fire sparked shortly after midnight in Tilbury.

Firefighters from stations in Tilbury, Merlin, and Wheatley were called to 33 Pearl Street around 12:38 a.m. on Wednesday.

Chatham-Kent Fire officials said crews were quick to contain the fire to one apartment unit. Two people were brought down from their balconies by fire crews. No injuries were reported.

Unfortunately, two cats died but firefighters were able to revive two other cats.

The blaze is currently under investigation by CK Fire. The Ontario Fire Marshal's office has been notified.

Damages are estimated at $250,000.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
