Stabbing on Walpole Island sends three to hospital

A Chatham teenager is facing charges in connection with a stabbing on Walpole Island First Nation that sent three people to hospital.

Lambton County OPP said officers were called to a residence on Austin Road on January 1 around 1:30 a.m.

Investigators said two people went to a residence and there was a fight. OPP said three people were stabbed and taken to a hospital with injuries police described as minor.

The suspect reportedly left the area and hid at a neighbouring residence. Provincial police said another person entered the residence, discharged a firearm and then fled the scene.

A 16-year-old was arrested at the scene and later charged with three counts of assault with a weapon and fail to comply with an undertaking.

The Chatham teen was released from police custody and has a future court date scheduled at the Ontario Court of Justice in Sarnia.

OPP said the second suspect is still outstanding, however, this is believed to be an isolated incident and there is no threat to public safety.
