Health unit confirms two deaths at Sarnia retirement home

Lambton Public Health has confirmed two additional COVID-19 deaths bringing the community's overall death toll to 30.

Bluewater Health reported Thursday that two senior citizens from a retirement home had died.

The health unit's updated figures show the two were residents at Village on the St. Clair Retirement Home, which currently has 21 residents and seven staff infected.

There are 26 new cases today, bringing the caseload to 1,502 since March. The number of recoveries is up 37 for a total of 1,256, putting the active case count at 216, down 13 from Thursday.

An outbreak declared at Trillium Villa Nursing Home in Sarnia on December 19 is now over.

Lambton Public Health continues to monitor a total of nine long-term care and retirement home outbreaks. There’s just one workplace outbreak now with seven cases.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
