Local COVID death toll now at 38

The death toll from COVID-19 in Sarnia-Lambton has gone up again.

Lambton Public Health reported the 38th related death in its daily update Monday, the 27th death at Bluewater Health since the start of the pandemic.

The health unit said an individual in the 70-plus age range died in hospital on Saturday, January 30. The hospital said it was a male, and that the number of positive patients in hospital is now at seven, with two in intensive care.

There were nine new confirmed cases of the virus over the past 24 hours for a total of 1,842. The number of resolved cases went up nine to 1,718, putting the active case count at 86, down one.

As of Monday there were seven workplace and institutional outbreaks, down from nine on Sunday. An outbreak at Landmark Village Retirement Home declared on January 11 has ended.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
