Man charged after domestic incident involving child

A man is facing a handful of charges after allegedly assaulting a child with a dirty diaper in Chatham.

According to police, it started on Friday when the man and a woman were having a disagreement about ongoing issues in the house.

As the argument escalated, the man allegedly pushed the woman, struck the child with his hand and pushed a soiled diaper into the child's face.

The woman was able to get a phone and call police. The man was arrested and charged with two counts of assault and one count of assault with a weapon.

The Children's Aid Society was contacted and the man was held for bail.

Man arrested twice in one hour

A man will have to answer to charges after allegedly threatening his brother during a dispute in Chatham.

On Friday, the man was released from custody in relation to a break and enter and theft of a motor vehicle.

After his release, he attended his brother's house despite being on conditions not to communicate with the brother.

In the midst of an argument, the accused allegedly threatened to burn his brother's house down.

As a result, the man was arrested for the second time in an hour and charged with uttering threats and breaching his conditions. He was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Assault arrest 

A call from an alert citizen is to thank for an arrest in Chatham.

According to police, a concerned neighbour called 9-1-1 reporting that he had witnessed a man push another man into a wall.

Officers attended the scene to investigate and an investigation into the accused revealed that he was wanted on a warrant from a previous incident.

He was arrested and held for bail.

Search after traffic stop turns up drugs

A traffic stop on Highway 401 in Dutton resulted in the arrest of a woman.

On Friday, Elgin County OPP stopped the woman on the 401 near the Dutton turnoff.

A police check revealed that she was wanted on warrants for failing to attend court and possession of stolen property. She was arrested and transported to Chatham-Kent Police Headquarters by OPP.

While searching her property, police located a small amount of what is believed to be crystal methamphetamine and a rock of crack cocaine.

She was subsequently arrested and charged with drug possession as well.  As a result of the warrant and drug charges, she was held for bail.

Stolen food leads to arrest 

A man has a future court date after allegedly stealing some food from a Chatham-Kent residence.

On Friday, police responded to the report of a break and enter where food items were stolen.

Officers located a man in possession of the stolen property. While investigating, the same man was accused of taking a motor vehicle without consent from another address.

He was taken into custody and released with a future court date.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
