London-Middlesex records large jump in COVID-19 cases

Health officials in London-Middlesex are reporting the largest daily COVID-19 case count since mid-January.

On Friday, 122 new cases of the virus were reported in the region, up from 84 new cases on Thursday. That marks the highest single-day case count since January 12, when 121 cases were reported.

Friday's daily case count is also one of the highest the London area has ever seen since the pandemic started. The highest single-day case count reported to date was 148 cases on January 4.

The total case count in London-Middlesex is now at 7,302. There are 649 active cases, up from 564 the previous day, and a total of 6,465 resolved cases.

There were no new deaths reported on Friday, with the death toll remaining at 188.

Meanwhile, no more variants of concern have been confirmed for a total of eight in the area. Another 228 have screened positive for the variant.

Outbreaks remain at Parkwood Institute Mental Health Care Building, Henley Place and Kensington Village and at three local schools.

No provincial numbers were released on Friday due to the holiday.
