Huron, Perth area keeping up with vaccination rates

The Medical Officer of Health for Huron-Perth Public Health, Dr. Miriam Klassen, says the region is keeping up with vaccination rates provincially.

As of April 20th, Huron-Perth vaccines administered had reached 35,475, with 20.3 per cent of residents receiving one dose, on par with the average provincially of 18.9 per cent.

And 3 per cent of Huron-Perth residents have completed full vaccination, above the 2.2 per cent provincial average.

She notes they hope to get back to consistent vaccination efforts next week.

"We are planning to reopen access to our booking system by early next week," said Dr. Klassen. "And the next available appointments will be as early as the first week of May depending on supply. We don't have our pre-registration when clinics open, all eligible groups can directly book an appointment."

Two mass vaccination clinics were also held this week. One in Goderich on Monday and one in Stratford on Thursday. The age-based clinics were expected to provide the first dose of COVID-19 vaccines to 1,300 people.

Dr. Klassen notes some pharmacies across Ontario are offering those 40 years and older the Astra-Zeneca vaccine, and Huron-Perth residents can find information on local opportunities for the vaccine on the Huron Perth Public Health website.
