The Windsor-Essex Health Unit has declared COVID-19 outbreaks at two fast-food restaurants in the region.
On Saturday morning, the health unit declared an outbreak at the Taco Bell on Tecumseh Road, near Lauzon Parkway. An outbreak has also been declared at the McDonald's on Essex County Road 22 in Belle River.
According to the health unit, the outbreaks were declared after "several employees tested positive for COVID-19." The outbreak at the McDonald’s is also associated with cases positive for a Variant of Concern.
"Variants of Concern are associated with increased transmissibility and severity," the health unit said in a media release. "Both facilities have been temporarily closed and testing recommended for all high-risk contacts."
While the risk of public exposure is low, the health unit is recommending anyone who visited the McDonald’s between April 11th and April 18th or the Taco Bell between April 14th and 19th to self-monitor for symptoms of COVID-19.
"Should symptoms develop, immediately self-isolate and contact a local assessment centre for testing," the health unit said.
