Police investigate stabbing in Chatham

A 28-year-old woman is accused of attempted murder after she allegedly stabbed a 30-year-old woman in Chatham.

Police said officers were called about a disturbance outside of an apartment building on Riverview Drive Monday afternoon.

It's alleged that a verbal argument between two women who know each other turned physical and resulted in one of them getting stabbed. Police said a 30-year-old Chatham woman was taken to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance with serious injuries.

The accused left the scene before police arrived. She was later found Monday night in Ridgetown.

Police said the 28-year-old Chatham woman was charged with attempted murder and being in possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. She has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
