Double digit hike in COVID cases, active infections edge higher

A double-digit increase in new confirmed COVID-19 cases was reported in Sarnia-Lambton Friday.

Lambton Public Health said there were 11 new infections, for a total of 3,238. Cases considered resolved went up by nine to 3,104, increasing the active case count by two to 78.

Since March 3, 375 cases have been identified as variants of concern (VOCs).

The number of workplace and institutional outbreaks remained unchanged at four. As of Friday, an outbreak declared April 19 at the Lambton College Residence had spread to 12 students.

Bluewater Health had 11 COVID-positive patients in hospital Friday, unchanged over the last 24 hours.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
