UPDATE: Middle Line crash claims Leamington man's life

An investigation is still underway into a two-vehicle crash on Middle Line near Tilbury that claimed the life of an 83-year-old Leamington man.

Police said the man was driving a van that collided head-on with a transport truck on Middle Line between Davidson Road and Oak Road at around 9 a.m. Tuesday. He sustained life-threatening injuries and died at the scene.

Chatham-Kent police identified the 83-year-old Leamington man on Thursday as Wayne Ives.

Officers said the transport truck driver -- a 63-year-old Wheatley man -- suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash.

Anyone with information on the collision is asked to contact Constable Josh Flikweert at joshuaf@chatham-kent.ca or 519-355-1092.

As of Wednesday morning, Middle Line between Davidson Road and Oak Road was still closed for environmental cleanup. A spokesperson for CK public works said the road was scheduled to re-partially re-open early Wednesday afternoon while the remaining process is completed.
