UPDATE: Early morning fire torches Chatham home

The damage is estimated at $250,000 after a blaze broke out at a house on Degge Street in Chatham.

A release from the Chatham-Kent fire department said crews from Station #1 and Station #2 were called to the home just after 1 a.m. Friday and "worked quickly to knock down the blaze."

The homeowner, two children, and two dogs who were all home at the time of the fire were able to get out without any injuries.

Fire officials said the cause is going down as undetermined. They are also reminding residents to have working smoke alarms on ever level of your home and to have carbon monoxide alarms outside of all sleeping areas.
