Sarnia-Lambton hits COVID-19 vaccination milestone

Sarnia-Lambton residents continue to roll up their sleeves for COVID-19 vaccines.

Lambton Medical Officer of Health Dr. Sudit Ranade said the community recently marked a milestone in the vaccination rollout.

"We've got 10 per cent of our population with two doses of vaccine, so that's good," said Dr. Ranade. "We are close to 85,000 doses administered, we are probably going to be administering 30,000 doses in June and probably at least the same amount in July and August as long as the supply keeps up."

Dr. Ranade on CHOK (103.9FM/1070AM) with Sue Storr on Tuesday, said they're opening up the Clearwater Arena clinic for a couple of dates in June, in preparation for an anticipated increase in vaccine supply this summer.

"Just kind of to use that space and get really comfortable with it," he said. "But also, I say this with sort of tempered optimism right, because we've been hearing this message for months and I have yet to see some massive flood of vaccine show up. But, we're hearing that July and August we're just going to be flooded with vaccines and need to push them through really quickly, and having that other space allows us to do that."

On Monday, Lambton Public Health announced that vaccine eligibility for second dose appointments has expanded to those 70 and up.
