Sexual assault in Chatham under investigation

Police in Chatham-Kent are looking for a man suspected of committing a sexual assault in Chatham.

Police said a 16-year-old girl was sitting under the Keil Street Bridge in Chatham on Wednesday afternoon, waiting for a friend when she said an unknown man stopped to talk to her. According to police, the man sat down, touched her thigh, and grabbed her wrist in an attempt to pull her closer to him.

The girl told police the man ran away as her friend arrived.

The suspect is described as a white man, approximately 40 years of age, with a tall average build. He had medium length brown hair that was slicked back and a long thick beard. He was last seen wearing glasses, an orange shirt and cargo pants.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
