CK Council waives sports field fee for next two years

Children in Chatham-Kent will soon be enjoying sports without the added cost of field fees.

Council passed a motion at Monday night's meeting that will waive the $10.65 sports field fee per participant for this year and next.

"Waiving the minor fee for sport field registrants will aid the groups in managing costs associated with COVID-19 protocols and allow groups the opportunity to reduce their registration fees," the report read. "It is expected that reduced registration feels will encourage families to register their children in these programs."

The municipality estimates waiving the fee will cost it approximately $33,367 annually with a total cost over two years of $66,732.

The revenue lost for this year will be covered by the safe restart funding, and the revenue lost for the following year will be referred to the 2022 budget for supplementary funding.
