Man charged after marijuana plants stolen from Chatham home

An 18-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly stealing marijuana plants from a Chatham home.

Chatham-Kent police were called Sunday morning to the area of McNaughton Avenue and Sandys Street for a suspicious man walking barefoot and carrying the leafy plants.

Officers said the man had been intoxicated by alcohol and was put under arrest. Police later discovered the plants were stolen from a nearby residence.

The accused is charged with break and enter to commit an indictable offence and possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000.

He has since been released from custody with a future court date on September 10.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
