Standoff in Wallaceburg ends peacefully

A Wallaceburg man has been charged with weapons offences after he allegedly entered an apartment complex in Wallaceburg with a handgun.

Officers had to contain the area for public safety on Friday afternoon and finally entered the apartment several hours after negotiations aimed at convincing the man to leave were unsuccessful.

A firearm was seized and the 25-year-old was charged early Saturday morning with unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and carrying a concealed weapon.

Police said this is not the first time that Albert Street residents have noticed the man in the area with a gun.
