U.S. extends travel restrictions at Canada border

Non-essential travel restrictions for Canadians entering the U.S. have been extended for another month.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) tweeted Friday morning that the United States is extending current restrictions until at least September 21, 2021. The rules were set to expire on Saturday.

The DHS cited continued efforts to limit the spread of COVID-19 and the Delta variant as one of the key reasons behind the ongoing closure of land crossings, including both the Blue Water Bridge and Ambassador Bridge.

On August 9, Canada reopened its border to fully-vaccinated American citizens and permanent residents for non-essential purposes.
