Man dies in Walpole Island house fire

Lambton OPP say a house fire on Walpole Island First Nation has claimed the life of a 68-year-old man.

OPP, along with the Walpole Island Police Service, and Walpole Island Fire Department responded to the blaze at around 4:10 a.m. Sunday.

Police said a body was found in the home as crews extinguished the fire.

The man was identified as Edwin Wright of Walpole Island.

The Ontario Fire Marshal has been called in to investigate the cause, and the death has been deemed non-suspicious at this time.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
