Traffic violation leads to drug, weapon charges

Three people from Leamington are facing drug and weapons-related charges after a weekend traffic stop in Chatham-Kent turned up more than just a speeding ticket.

Police say an officer pulled the vehicle over on Communication Road for a speeding violation around 2 a.m. Sunday.

While the officer was speaking to the driver, he determined the driver had been drinking. After administering a roadside test, the officer placed the driver under arrest.

The driver was brought to an OPP detachment and, according to police, provided two samples over the legal limit. Through investigation, police say they found a loaded handgun and some illegal drugs.

As a result, a 30-year-old Leamington man was charged with drug and weapons-related offences, along with an impaired driving charge.

A 22-year-old Leamington woman and a 25-year-old Leamington man were also charged with several weapons-related offences.
